I did a quick survey to try to find out how many people are able to get their employer to pay for a new iPhone every year. This is one part "tool to do your job" and one part perk. I received 46 responses total. Of those, 36 were developers that worked for a company. So I don’t think we have a big enough response set for the self-employed or non-developer crowd.
Here are the results for work for a company+developers:
Every year: 27.8%
Every 2 years: 0%
Every 3 years: 5.6%
Every 4 years: 2.8%
